So the obvious question is, who (other than the Carpenters) are your top five favourite singers/bands?
Mine are:
1. Dusty Springfield 2. Barry Manilow 3. Dionne Warwick 4. Cat Stevens 5. The Seekers

I am primarily a fan of classic rock and alternative rock so my other favorites are very different from Carpenters. I am also a big fan of the hard bop and fusion which are sub-genres of jazz. Here's a few... Omar Rodriguez Lopez The Mars Volta Liam McKahey Cousteau Jimi Hendrix Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Ornette Coleman Miles Davis Weather Report and there are many many others...

Wow... interesting selection. I must say that I've never heard of some of these, but I like what I hear. Very different from the Carpenters! I get the attraction to Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. My collection is full of these artists as well. This reminds me, the other day on CBC radio, there was a tribute to the music of Jerry Wexler (who coined the phrase R&B) which was phenomenal. Interesting that so much of the music world is hidden behind the song writers, the producers and the publishers.

What you say is so true Linda about artists being hidden behind the songwriters, producers, arrangers and publishers (I threw arrangers in as most people do not realize that it is actually the arranger that sculpts the sound of the music). I am also a huge fan o f R&B. I love Earth Wind & Fire, War, Stevie Wonder, Raphael Saadiq, Sharon Jones, Aretha Franklin... I can go on and on.

NOT. I love the Bee Gees, and Alanis Morissette and Anne Murray. And others, but I'm hungry at the moment so I can't think.

Now here is one to get to know... Julieta Venegas - Hoy This song is fantastic. I love Julieta, she plays keyboards, accordion, guitar, glockenspiel, banjo, xylophone and several other instruments... she also writes all her own songs and produces or co-produces her albums. But what I like best about her is that she's out there with her music without having to shake her body parts all over the place... she's a talented and classy lady.
