Hey everyone! I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. Though I'm new to the forums, I'm not new to the Carpenters music, having grown up with a few of their hits in my parents' CD collection in/from the 80's. I have since expanded my list of favorite Carpenters hits thanks to YouTube and of course this site... and because of that, it has now become increasingly difficult for me to have any single, favorite Carpenters song! hehehe! I found my way here via the Karen Carpenter crush club. Obviously I (too), presumably among many, have at one point in their lives have been enamored by Karen's immaculate singing voice, her bubbly, sometimes playful personality, and... I'll be completely honest... she was so heart-breakingly beautiful!!

hi everyone, new to the forum
my name is mark and I live in the U.K. I`m 54 years young and I`ve been a massive fan of the carpenters since I was in single digits. I remember my parents playing the carpenters in the car on 8 track and I liked them then and just as strongly now. like many on here I`m guessing, I have a large collection of carpenters albums etc, including all their albums, limited edition sets, box sets, dvds etc and still listen to her most nights. Karen has this remarkable ability to get right to your soul when she sings and there are one or two songs now, that still reduce me to tears when I listen to them, of which I have no shame in admitting! she truly was a remarkable human being and beautiful person. she is sadly missed and I believe always will be.
really glad I found this site and it will be great to talk to other fans around the world
regards, mark.

Hello everyone. Karen was actually my 8th grade homeroom and english teacher from September 1978 to June 1979. Honestly, she was really 'the girl next door' the whole time I knew her. It wasn't an image. She was always down to earth. She used one of her grandmother's maiden names as her teacher name so that people didn't know who she was. Her and I became very close because she was 'the girl next door' and I was like 'the guy next door' so her and I hit it off from almost the start. Many times, Karen and I literally knew what each other was thinking. The big problem was that I was 13 (14 on December 4, 1978) and Karen was 28 (29 on March 2, 1979). Karen and I could talk about anything, but we never got closer than a foot or so from each other because I didn't want to take a chance of Karen getting in trouble or accused of anything. During the school year, her brother Richard stopped by one day, I saw Richard but I didn't meet him. I met Paul Williams once. I met Cubby O'Brien once. I talked with her to Rod Temperton on an old-fashioned speaker phone system once. I also took piano lessons at one time with Karen's younger cousin Patti Carpenter who was a couple years older than I was (Patti was in 10th grade. I was in 8th grade). Many great memories. She was always a very wonderful person inside and out.

No imagination pookeysmom527 . Thanks for asking. I live in Corning New York if that helps you any. Karen stayed with her cousin Wendy from September 1978 to June 1979 and again from June 12 to June (20th?, the last day I saw Karen was June 18), 1981 in Corning New York. Edit, and oops, um, my information does not come from books or documentaries or such so if it seems a little different it is because a bunch of people actually knew that I knew Karen, but because of my age, I have been kept secret for many, many years. On top of that, I had a 'gag order' aka order of suppression issued on me in 1973 from the Archdeacon of Canterbury so my name, image, and such were not allowed in national and international news articles (especially tabloids). Mush was the closest to Karen as Mush knew all of Karen's secrets. Richard and I were in that next group after Mush. Tom and Karen used to lie to each other so Tom was several groups down on the list. On February 4, 1983 Richard showed up in Corning NY after he had 'pulled the plug' on Karen. Karen had not told Richard about her plans to elope with me after the mess with Thomas Burris. Karen had made a story up that she was looking into getting another manager as the reason why Karen was going to be flying out after she signed her divorce papers. Richard cried on the plane, I cried in front of Richard after Richard said, "I pulled the plug, How does that make you feel?" a couple times and I just broke down and said, "How does it make me feel? You got to see her but I couldn't see her, write to her, call her, or talk to her because she was married, how do you think I feel?" and I just started crying. Tom Burris was worried if he would have a roof over his head was about the extent of Tom's caring. Richard and I were both emotional wrecks when Karen passed away on February 4, 1983.
