From Carolyn, who Evelyn lives with: Carolyn posted to Karen Carpenter's Friends and Fans
Carpenter Friends...
I want to let everyone of you know that my dear friend since 1971, Evelyn Wallace, the Carpenters, Personal Secretary, is gravely ill.
Evelyn who so many of you know through her personal notes to many of you and her wonderful newsletters over the years is 93 years of age now and quite simply her body is shutting down.
She is in a semi-comatose state, does not speak, does not recognize me or her daughter Sharon. She is in no pain. Hospice care is Wonderfull with her. When they are not here I take care of her with help from her daughter Sharon.
I wanted all of you wonderful loving people to know. When she does pass which we have been told is imminent, I will let you all know.
My life will dramatically change, I will not have my dear friend to have as a sounding board. I will miss her so much but I love her enough to allow her to move on to a better place. Where she will be whole again, can dance again, can see and talk with Karen again.
I will keep you all informed as time permits. Thanks to you all. Carolyn

Before Evelyn passed this morning I sat at her bed and read many of the posts sent by you. Even though she could not answer me I know she heard them all."

Evelyn seemed so much the mother Karen never had when I read 'Little Girl Blue' and I think she always regretted not going to see Karen in New York.
I like to think Evelyn lived such a long life so she got some of the years Karen didn't have.
Very sad news.

What a sad day for the Carpenter community. I'm glad she got to have such a long life, though.
