I'm not one for the X Factor and those sorts of talent shows which are in fact more about looks and youth rather than talent and ability.
Although I can't say I've never watched it or don't have a vague idea as to who's who I guess I tend to dip into the X Factor and stop watching once I get bored of the contestants.
This year, I have to say I've watched every week and this is mainly to cheer on Sam Bailey, a 35-year-old wife and mum from Leicester. No one seems to doubt her voice and singing talent, but the internet seems to be full of people saying she could never win as she's too old, too fat, too this, too that, not classically 'good looking' enough, she's just a wife and mum and generally seeming to want to pull her to pieces.
It's awful to think that the sort of knocks and criticism Karen would have felt in the '70s is still around today and it's even worse now that people can Tweet / Facebook / email their bile direct. I'll never understand some people.
Anyway, I hope you will enjoy her singing "New York! New York!" which she performed on Saturday night...

Sam Bailey won the UK X Factor and this is her singing "And I'm Telling You" with her mentor, Nicole Scherzinger, during the night of the live final.
